You never envision yourself as the senior, you’re always the underclass men who never really sees the end in sight, these four years, to you, are endless.

And then, it happens one summer, between your junior and senior year that the next time you begin doing things, that they will be your last, and everything is finally put into perspective.

Five years ago I was more concerned with prom and high school graduation, two things of which I was convinced would never be trumped by any other monumental moment in my life.

And here I am today, graduating in a few short days from a private university in the foothills of Appalachia, wishing so desperately for just one more week, semester, even year to do everything else I could’ve or should’ve but didn’t have the time.

It’s humbling. To say the least.

These last four years of mine have been completely devoted to this little college on a hill, with countless activities, Greek life and even working here through the summer, and I don’t think I could’ve ever gotten any better sense of home away from home had I hand picked and decorated it myself.

Muskingum has become everything to me, and I couldn’t be more blessed for the opportunities that I have been given while here. Aside from that, the devotion and support of the faculty and staff is absolutely unmatched, you cannot imagine compassion like theirs, but they have it, and the willingness to help every single one of the Muskies here have been made better because of these people.

My friends, sisters and I joke that we aren’t ready for the real world, and in many ways, we are still very young and have a lot to learn still, but at the same time, Muskingum has become the perfect launch pad for us, and saying that “I’m a Muskie” really does hold some leverage.

I cannot tell you where I will go from here, how I’ll get there, or what I’ll end up doing, but I can thank Muskingum for all that’s in store for me.

I hope that you have enjoyed reading my blog every Wednesday and getting to know my version of Muskingum, because I have really enjoyed writing this weekly.

There could just never be enough Wednesday’s to really share how incredible my experience was at Muskingum.

Now, I thought I’d share a little more about finals and how things work here. Yesterday was a study, which is very useful. It’s a great time to get caught up on sleep and studying, however most people don’t sleep all that much in hopes of studying as much as possible. Last night was also Finals Breakfast, which has been written about before. Finals Breakfast is simply a late night event where the faculty and staff serve breakfast to all the students. It’s really a great time and one last time to just have fun and laugh before the stress of finals.

I’m not going to mention much about the “G” word (graduation), because even though I am excited for all the seniors to graduate, I will miss a lot of them.

The last thing I am going to leave you all with is, make the most of everything that you do and put your heart into it.

AND remember STUDY STUDY STUDY.

Tuesday night we had a senior happy hour and Wednesday was our last day of classes.

And that’s why I’m posting today because today is study day, while finals start tomorrow.

I luckily don’t have any finals tomorrow so I’ve been enjoying some time with friends.

Also tonight we had a senior salute, where he had a toast for the class of 2012 with our President, Anne Steele.

Things have been so insane and flying by, and I can’t wait to write about the next week next Wednesday.

I’ll be sure and wrap up with a story from graduation too.

We’ve made it to the last week of classes here at Muskingum. Everyone is in a rush to finish last-minute papers and projects, myself included. With only two days of class remaining, I still have a project due and a quiz to worry about! I’m looking forward to finals week though. I always enjoy having such time to study for my exams and fully prepare myself to do my best.
I have a busy exam schedule this week, starting on Friday at 8:30 a.m. From there I have a final every day through Thursday.
The nice thing about finals week is that all you have to focus on is your exams. Organizations and the like don’t meet, so it’s a great time to get plenty of sleep and lots of studying. We have 24-hour quiet hours too, which–as simple as it seems–makes the studying process go a lot smoother!
Overall, I feel pretty confident about exams. The good thing about Muskingum is that professors are often willing to work with you in whatever ways possible to ensure your success. It’s nice that they take a vested interest in students. It goes a long way in terms of support and help.
All in all, it’s going to be a combination of relaxation and stress this next week.

This is what we call Muskiepalooza weekend, and on Saturday night we will have what is called “big concert” where Cris Cab will be opening for Mike Posner.

But this is also one weekend I’ve been looking forward to since August, and that is the opening of the 175th exhibit.

These past few weeks have been spent getting last minute materials together, and all free hours this week have been devoted to putting the final touches on the cases and placement of objects.

And I am very thrilled to announce that it will open on Friday for the board and remain open through mid-June.

I’ve attached a few sneak peeks, however, I do hope for all of those attending campus or visit, that you take a quick 15 minute journey through Caldwell hall and experience:

“Muskingum, The First 175 Years”

As I sit down to write this post, I’m really excited that I get to share this experience with you. This past Friday, I participated in Relay for Life through as a part of my sorority, Alpha Sigma Alpha. We collected donations–raising around $200, about a tenth of the total amount–and we walked in shifts to support the search for a cure to cancer. (We also won the banner competition, which was pretty exciting!) I’ve participated in Relay at my home town, but this time it was a completely different experience for me. I arrived just in time for the luminaria ceremony, in which the read the names inscribed on bags surrounding the walking area (it was held in the gym instead of outside on the track.) There were also some on the bleachers that read HOPE. As the ceremony progressed, workers moved the bags on the bleachers so that they formed the word CURE. It was incredibly silent as the light from the bags lit the gym and the ceremony proceeded. With time, though, the silence was interrupted by tears falling and sniffling peers. I looked around in awe as I saw the number of people–people that I knew and cared about–whose lives were affected by cancer. Many of my sisters had lost loved ones, others experienced the battle to see their loved ones to survive. I was humbled as I saw that this university was so much more than what first meets the eye. Muskingum is made up of people who have struggled through their lives, and still struggle today. But they are here, and they are working hard to advance their lives. The student population gathered for this cause and it was beautiful. I saw many people that I already knew in an entirely new light. I was greatly affected by the experience. It’s safe to say that it changed my life, to some degree.

These are the things that set Muskingum apart. The people, the determination, the homely feeling. It’s a good place to be, and I am very grateful that I was able to partake in this opportunity.

Muskingum does not allow for students to have pets in the dorms or houses on campus, and it is for this reason that the campus ducks have become so fond among the students.

They are our pets. And we love them.

This may seem ridiculous, but they are very docile and many will nearly eat right out of your hands. (they love bread and teddy Graham’s)

But they also provide us entertainment, with my house being directly across from the campus lake, I myself have walked out on our front porch and to my surprise found a duck sitting there, just staring at me.

They also slow down traffic, because they are constantly meandering their way around campus, and they are never in a hurry.

If you hear a car honking, I’d be willing to bet $5 that a duck is in the road.

These little ducks have provided me with much fun and entertainment over four years, and a nice get away to sit by the pond and feed them.

So when you come to campus, keep an eye out for them!

We’re just getting back from our break here at Muskingum, and with only a month of school remaining, things are pretty hectic!
People are preparing for the last exams before finals, writing their last papers, so on and so forth. Not to mention the chaos of scheduling and other end of the year responsibilities.
This weekend, though, is going to be the opportunity for a little fun–parents weekend. There are a couple different things going on throughout the weekend, but as far as my involvement I have a scholarship recognition program and Relay for Life.
The scholarship program is basically just a ceremony to recognize those who are on Dean’s List, top 5% of their class, etc. Basically it’s a pat on the back for students who have high academic achievements.
Relay for Life is being held here on campus. I didn’t participate last year, but I’m going to be walking this year and just having an excellent time! I’m pretty excited about participating and just spending time with my ASA sisters.

One last little break before the final push to end the semester on a strong note.

This Easter Break will be spent with family and loved ones, sprinkled with some homework, Senior Seminar Revisions and hopefully reading The Hunger Games.

I hope you are all having a great week! As of yesterday I am scheduled for Fall Semester of my senior year. It’s amazing to think how fast time has gone by. To me this is very exciting and I am definitely looking forward to my senior year and being on step closer to moving on to the next step of my life. At the same time, it’s a little upsetting to think how fast things have gone. When they say that your four years here fly by it’s the truth.

My best advice I can give you all is to take advantage every opportunity, talk to as many people as you can, and smile. College is a great time, but make sure you put your work in as well.
