A Saturday Morning in NC

I woke up to an alarm clock at 5:30 a.m., signaling the wake-up of my significant other for his drill weekend with his Army unit. As he dressed in his ACU’s and pulled on his combat boots, I covered my head, wishing for more sleep on a Saturday morning. He left at 5:45 a.m. and I stayed in bed, staring at the ceiling – I couldn’t sleep. So, I threw off the covers and arose to meet the early morning. I dressed in my running gear and went for a morning run through New Concord. What a beautiful run it was. It was misty and a summer chill hung in the air, almost making me shiver as I ran through campus. The streets were empty. However, I did spot many other runners enjoying the best kept secret in New Concord, the early mornings. Before I knew it, an hour had passed, and my legs began telling me it was about time to rest. I made it back to the apartment, showered, and got ready for the rest of the morning. I packed up my computer and headed out to the coffeehouse. There is where I sit now typing this, listening to live guitar music, and enjoying an iced french vanilla cappuccino – and it’s still before 11:oo a.m.  An early rise was not what I really wanted at first, but I’m certainly glad I took the bait and rose, for I discovered more small town beauty that I ever thought existed. A quiet, peaceful, misty summer morning run through a small town and an awesome coffeehouse atmosphere with catchy live music and my favorite drink…well, I will certainly rise early to the tune of an early alarm any day if this is what I have to look forward to. I guess summers in New Concord aren’t that boring after all.
