Getting Through the First Week

The first week of classes can be a difficult adjustment for any student, regardless of what year they are.

That being said, here are some tips for getting through the first week of classes:

1.) Be Prepared-make sure you have all your books and general school supplies ready to go.

2.) Know Where You’re Going-in order to be on time for your classes, it is best to look at your schedule and find out what buildings and rooms you need to go to beforehand.  Nothing gives a bad first impression with professors than showing up late (or not at all) on the first day of class! Also, take note as to where else you might be going throughout the day, such as dining halls or the rec center.

3.) Demonstrate Confidence-when you have a good attitude about yourself and are confident, you become more at ease with yourself and others. People will be more likely to approach you, and vice versa. Don’t be afraid to approach someone or be approached and make conversation. You never know, you might end up with a new friend!

4.) Be Courteous-be polite to everyone you meet.  This includes faculty, staff, fellow students and anyone else you encounter.  Courtesy always has its rewards!

5.)  Don’t Be Afraid-true, the first week can be a little scary, especially if you are a first year student…but fear not!  If you have any concerns or questions about anything, there are plenty of people to talk to on this campus who are willing to listen and help you.  🙂
