Conferences Galore

As an active student at Muskingum, I have had a lot of opportunities to attend various national conferences, all expenses paid by the University. The first conference I actually participated in was held in New Orleans where I attended a conference about French-Cajun cultures in Louisiana and how that culture settled in within that area. That conference lasted about 6 to 8 hours, leaving me with about a day-and-a-half to explore the New Orleans attractions.

Next week, I will be attending my second out-of-state conference in Louisville, KY where I will be presenting a project on celebrity journalism at the Associated Collegiate Press Conference. I will be spending the entire morning of October 30 preparing and presenting my project, however, I will be exploring what Louisville has to offer the evening before.

Not only should you take advantage of conferences as a student because of the incredible experience it gives you, but also because it helps you to travel at a low cost and helps you to see the culture and the world that surrounds you. You learn about the “adult” life that awaits you after college, and it gives you some ideas of what you might want to go for.
