What I am thankful for…

This will be the first Thanksgiving that my husband and I will celebrate as husband and wife.

This was also supposed to be my first Thanksgiving spent alone.

My husband is a soldier in the Army National Guard and was supposed to be deployed to Iraq right now, leaving me to spend the holiday with our family instead. This Thanksgiving, I was to be eating a feast without my best friend, while he enjoyed his holiday in the desert, enjoying some type of makeshift Thanksgiving. However, his deployment was cancelled by his unit several months ago – thus he will be celebrating with me after all.

I am thankful that my husband, my best friend, my soul mate will be sitting next to me at dinner today. I will be able to hold his hand and pray with him today instead of blow a kiss to a computer screen. I am so very blessed that my soldier will be next to me today. So many other military family members will not be able to say the same, and my heart and prayers go out to them.

So while you are giving thanks for all you have this Thanksgiving, say a prayer (outloud or silent) to those troops who cannot be with their families today – the soldiers who gave you the freedom to pray.
