Winter Survival 101

One of the most important things you will need to know as a muskie is how to survive the winter here in muskieland. Snow, while great to have on the hills for sledding, can also be quite dangerous, as it can turn into ice and thus increasing one’s possibility of falling. It is important to know how to stay safe in the winter.

The first major step to staying safe in the winter, is to invest in a good pair of boots. It is important especially to buy boots with great traction so you will not slip. Remember, safety before style!

The second major step is to dress warmly. Walking to, from and around the quad in the dead of winter requires one to bundle up. The best way to do this? Layers. Dress in layers, and also pay special attention to your head. Protect your head, neck and ears from the cold!

The hills can be dangerous in the winter, so it is important to remember to walk carefully when going up and down them. Although it rarely happens, sometimes if the weather reaches a certain level of severity, classes will be cancelled. Students are usually notified of this through e-mail, so be sure to check it when the weather seems questionable.
