Senior Secret Spiller: Campus Jobs

Worried about how to keep the cash-flow going when college starts? Well, I’m passing my tips on to you to make that cash-flow happen!

1. Ask about work-study scholarships when applying for financial aid – campus jobs are typically reserved FOR those work-study students. Once all of the work-study applicants take their jobs, then the unclaimed (and usually undesirable) positions are then open to anyone (and it’s ALWAYS first-come, first-served!)

2. The first TWO weeks of the fall semester are CRITICAL for finding a job. After that and you’ll be struggling to find an office to take you.

4. Ask about jobs EVERYWHERE. The library, EVERY administrative office, admissions (they ALWAYS take tour guides to take other prospective students around – you just need to have a good knowledge of the campus, and you get paid per tour and you can have multiple tours everyday!) the mail room, the Bait Shop cafe (morning to afternoon position) or the Winn Cafe (night positions ONLY)…there are jobs everywhere!!!

5. DRESS NICE and BE POLITE when looking for work!! First impressions matter!
