An Amazing Opportunity

Hey everybody!

As the year continues, I have to say how I love the fact that Muskingum is a small university. There are so many benefits that exist with going to a small university.

1). You get to know people very well! With Muskingum having around  1600 students, you get to know the people around you very well. I love being able to see the people I am close to on a daily basis simply because the size of the campus allows for that.

2). You get to know faculty well. With a small school, it is so much easier to get to know the people who are teaching your classes. With building that relationship, you can end up with a great working relationship with professors, something that will eventually lead to good reference letters for the future.

3). You have opportunities that you wouldn’t have at larger schools! From working at a radio station in my first year here to being able to interview the Vice President of the college, there are many opportunities that you get with a smaller school. One opportunity that I had last year was to work on a study for a Communication Research class and then submit that study to a conference. I submitted my study to this conference based on the recommendation of my professor, who helped to fine tune that study. As a result, I am leaving tomorrow with that professor and one other student to present this study at the Ohio Communication Association Conference. At a larger institution, I probably would not have had the initiative to submit the study to this conference, as I would not have seen any purpose to do so. I am incredibly excited to see what the rest of this year will hold.
