Getting a hands-on education

Last Thursday, our Society of Collegiate Journalists Honorary hosted Muskingum alum Aaron Spragg as a guest speaker. Aaron was a journalism major who worked for awhile at WHIZ-TV and now owns his own company, Storied Rivals Sports Media (check out his website: http://storiedrivals.bigcartel.com/). I had so much fun organizing and hosting this talk. Aaron gave a funny, modern perspective on what you can do with a journalism major in todays technologically advanced society and I’ve gotten a lot of great feedback on how he inspired people, students and professors alike, with his talk and video clips of his work. Basically, he takes high school sports teams and gives them their own Friday Night Lights style video package of their season. As a senior journalism major, I know his points about Muskingum’s hands-on journalistic experience made me feel even better about my choice of school and I feel even more confident in my ability to land a job after graduation in May.

I hope you all find your perfect major and program also!
