Senior Seminar

At Muskingum, students are expected to complete a project that serves as a culmination of their major.
Being the double major that I am, I have two seminar classes that I have to do. This semester I’m taking my English seminar, which is centered around Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man.
I’ve read the novel twice, in addition to multiple journal articles that relate to the topic of the 30-page paper that I’ll spend the semester writing.
It’s certainly a large project, and the greatest difficulty is finding the self-motivation to get the things done that need done. Being a senior, this is even more difficult.
That being said, I’ve had a great time reading all of the different articles and formulating thoughts about how I’m going to shape my paper. Reading the novel, in itself, provided a lot of insight into what I wanted to write about.
One of the greatest things about the English seminar, in my opinion, is that it gives you the freedom to research and write about something that you’re really passionate about.
It’s safe to say that I’ve already gained a deeper understanding of myself through the experience, and I still have most of the semester ahead of me.
This part of the Muskingum education is the most challenging and the most exciting; while it demands more than the classes leading up to it, it also allows you to really figure out what you like and gives you the chance to put that into action.
Reading all of the articles, on the other hand, is pretty time-consuming. That’s what I’ll spend most of my week doing.
I hope you all have a beautiful week.
