Muskingum Greek Life

This coming week begins formal recruitment for the fraternities and sororities on campus. I’ve been pretty involved in my sorority this semester, and I’ve been thinking a lot about how great Greek Life is at Muskingum, and how the sororities at Muskingum aren’t really like the stereotypical sorority you see on movies and television.
I’m certainly not your typical sorority girl. My hair isn’t bleach-blond, I’m not the “sorority-girl body type,” and I don’t like to party. Well, I don’t like to drink. Everyone loves a good party. I wouldn’t fit into the sororities on television, and I wouldn’t want to be in one of the sororities on television. At Muskingum, though, Greek Life is incredibly diverse. There are athletes, musicians, science majors, math majors, art majors, education majors..the list goes on and on. There are people from different backgrounds and different places, and people with different personalities and characteristics. I’ve been known to say that there’s a place for everyone to fit in the Muskingum Greek community, and I believe that to be true. Does that mean Greek Life is for everyone? No. Some people just don’t want to be Greek. But there is always a place for every kind of person because of our diversity.
The diversity is without a doubt one of the greatest aspects about Greek Life at Muskingum, and Muskingum in general.
I’m not your typical sorority girl, but I found a place with Alpha Sigma Alpha. They are amazing women of poise and purpose, and I have grown to become a much better person after joining. I have had the opportunity to be involved in experiences I wouldn’t have been able to enjoy otherwise, such as volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, meeting people from all over the nation who I am bonded to in sisterhood, and being a leader in ways more beneficial than any other leadership position I’ve known. Alpha Sigma Alpha has helped me to become who I am, and it’s given me a support system unparalleled by anything I’ve ever known. If I have an idea, I have sisters who will find a way to make it happen. I can honestly say that Alpha Sigma Alpha is one of the best thing that has happened to me.
I know other colleges have fraternities and sororities, but I know that Muskingum Greek Life is more personal and meaningful than I could have found in any other place.

Happy rushing and have a great week.
