Opportunities afforded

This week has been an incredibly exciting one.
As Ali described, this week is formal recruitment at Muskingum. That in itself is exciting, and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to get to know new people and inform them about what my sorority has to offer.

That being said, I’m additionally excited about a unique opportunity that being part of the national sorority Alpha Sigma Alpha has provided me.
For homecoming, I designe1382258_10152246705125968_1523554989_nd a banner that not only won first place, but generated a lot of hype from some of our alumnae members. They were interested in getting shirts with the design on it, so the president of our chapter Beth Stokey and I began looking into opportunities to make that happen. In a matter of days, we had designed shirts, created order forms, set up a new bank account and email, and launched a website to sell shirts to all of our ASA sisters across the nation.

In less than a week, two people successfully organized a national fundraiser. That in itself is quite a feat, but the support we’ve received already is even more incredible. In less than 24 hours we’ve sold 20 shirts, and there’s many more people interested. We’re gaining funds for our chapter and my design is going to be worn across the nation. Already there have been orders placed from over five separate states.

This kind of opportunity isn’t something that you can get just anywhere. Being part of a national sorority provides the connections and support across the nation to sell the shirts. The completion of the project itself, though, probably wouldn’t have happened if we weren’t at Muskingum. In my time here, I’ve come to recognize the overwhelming support and assistance the Muskingum community provides. What was a simple idea blossomed into a big idea, and we found the support and assurance we needed to make it happen. Muskingum has provided a foundation for success, and my time in ASA has further helped me to reach that success. Increasingly, I’m convinced that when there’s a will, there’s a way, and my sisters in ASA and our advisors have helped to show me that anything can happen, and they’re willing to help me make big things happen.

That, in my opinion, is really valuable.

Have a great week,
