Meet Our Faculty

I loved the post Devin made interviewing her professor. For our First Year Seminar class, we had to interview a faculty member and present it to our class. I decided to interview my Spanish professor, Beth Butler. Here is a few questions from that interview to help you get to know another wonderful member of our faculty.

Q: Where did you grow up/where are you from?
A: Canton, Ohio

Q: Where have you traveled?
A: Some parts of the US(Southeast), Canada, France, England, Spain, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Germany.

Q: What is your educational background?
A: Bachelors degree in Spanish, Masters degree in Spanish, PhD in Spanish.

Q: How long have you worked at Muskingum?
A: Five years

Q: What made you want to apply for a job here?
A: I did a national search and it was close to home. (Canton)

Q: Why did you major in Spanish? What did you plan to do/did you do with that major?
A: I was fascinated that people could communicate using different systems. I worked as a migrant advocate, taught elementary and middle school Spanish, and also taught at a community college.

Q: Do you do any community service?
A: I do service with my kids because they are involved in a music program. I also have done editing for Brazilian students.

Q: Do you have any pets, children, and/or hobbies?
I have a cat- Macy Gray and two children. Mackenzie is a college freshman and Shane is in the sixth grade. My hobbies are gardening, cooking, and reading.

Q: What advice do you have for freshman here?
A: Stay focused. Find your passion. (You need to love your job.) Keep balance in your life.

There you have it! A bit about Professor Butler. You can take her Spanish classes here as a liberal arts essential class or even major in Spanish. I really love her class and it is probably my favorite one of the day!

Stay warm this week! 🙂
