What Makes Muskingum Unique

Being a student here at Muskingum for the past three years has been the best decision. I often think back to when I was in a panic making college visits and being forced to narrow down choices of schools etc. I visited Muskingum three times throughout the course of my senior year in high school, and whenever students/professors would tell me all the “special” things about Muskingum, I didn’t really take it to heart. I mean, why would someone who is trying to get you to come to school here tell you it sucks? However, here I am three years later in amazement that the things I was told actually are very true here.

1. Our professors are the best
I have never met a faculty member in any department that does not fall under this category. Professors are very hands on in class and like to interact and have a good time with you. What better way to learn than while you are actually having fun and enjoying what you are learning about? My favorite quality professors here at Muskingum have is their unselfishness. They will stay after class, meet you before class, or even make special office hour appointments with you just to help you out if you don’t understand something in class. I have asked for help from a professor before and been in her office for 40 minutes clearing information up and getting additional information helping me understand a topic. I would never have imagined professors being so willing to take away from their personal lives if it means helping a student out.

2. There really is a Muskie Hello
Every time I visited campus everyone always said that people would randomly wave and say hello to everyone whether they know you or not. THIS. IS. TRUE. Whether I am on the quad, walking to class, or even on Main Street at the grocery store, people say hello to you and make conversation with you. This is such a great feeling to be a part of a community that is full of love and consideration.

3. You will never be bored here
On visits, I would look around and not understand how this could be true since the campus was so small, and not to mention the nearest Wal-mart was 10 minutes away. What I didn’t know was that when homework or sports was not demanding time from me, there would always be friends to hang out with, group/club organizational events, or events in the chess center that were always available to go to. Don’t let the size of the school intimidate you—there is plenty of things to do here!

4. You will have the best time of your life
This was always such a cliché statement to me—now I believe this is very true. I still have two years to go here and I can already look back and just smile when I think of all the wonderful friendships I have made, and the memories I will have with them. All the lessons I have learned and the maturity I have gained from this school so far is incredible. Whatever college/university you end up choosing, I hope you feel the same way I do at the end of your college career.
However, I know one thing is for sure, Muskingum will not disappoint you!
