My 8 Top Reasons Why I LOVE Muskingum

8. Our School Mascot=Muskie
Come on! What other school do you know whose school colors are magenta and black and the mascot is a big fish?

7. #onlyatmuskingum
For students here at Muskingum, there is a meaning to this hash-tag. I dare you to find out the meaning of this for yourself, and I promise that you will if you decide to be a part of MU in your future. Where else do you hear of students riding a unicycle to class, or a golf cart ending up in the lake? Only at Muskingum.

6. Professor-Student Interaction
Because most classes are small (15-20 students) this gives professors the opportunity to build relationships with their students and make the classes you are in more personable. In return, class is a lot more interesting and it is a lot easier to pay attention when you are having a good time. Professors at Muskingum are always willing to go above and beyond for their students and will meet with you at your convenience outside of their office hours if you are not able to stop in when they have them. They really are here to help you and to benefit you and it’s a great feeling to be able to feel this way about your educators.

5. We Are A Community
When you’re on the quad 10 different people smile and say “hi” before you get to your next class, large groups walking to class together, students holding the door for one another—these are just a few of the many reasons why we are like our own little community. Yes, the village of New Concord isn’t much bigger than the University itself, but hey, up here on the hill we are like one large, extended family!

4. MU Has Challenged Me
Muskingum has challenged me over the course of my four years to become my own person. Faced daily with adversity whether it be time management, a tough class, or a disagreement with a roommate I have learned so much about myself through my experience here at Muskingum. I only hope that all of you can look back after your four years here and see how much you have grown and learned to understand yourself.

3. It’s Beauty
The campus is absolutely beautiful regardless of the time of year, or what the weather is. It’s always a breath of fresh air to step outside and walk to class amongst the hills and brick buildings on campus.

2. My Teammates
As a member of the Muskingum Softball team, I can say that these girls all have a special place in my heart. I have spent more time together laughing, sweating, complaining (just a little), and even crying with them more than I have any other team I have ever been a part of in my entire life. They have my back as I have theirs and through my four years here I finally know what it feels like to be a part of a real team. And a championship team at that.

1. This is Home
Muskingum is my home away from home. Just like students get excited to go home for Christmas break after not being at home in a few months, I get excited at the end of the summer to pull back up the campus drive and embrace all the memories and beauty that surrounds me. There is no greater place on Earth and no place I would rather be than at 199 Stormont Street, New Concord, Ohio.
